Dr. Hani HAMDAN is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Paris-Saclay University (ranked 14th in the world by the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities http://www.shanghairanking.com/ARWU2020.html) at the engineering school CentraleSupélec (a Grande école resulting from the merging in January 1, 2015, of the École Centrale de Paris (Centrale Paris) and the École Supérieure d’Électricité (Supélec)). He has been Professor in the Department of Signal Processing and Electronic Systems of the École Supérieure d’Électricité (Supélec) between 2008 and December 2014.
He received his Engineering Diploma in Electricity and Electronics option Computer Science and Telecommunication in 2000 from the Faculté de Génie of the Université Libanaise in Beirut, Lebanon, his Master of Science in Industrial control in 2001 from the Faculté de Génie of the Université Libanaise in collaboration with the Université de Technologie de Compiègne (UTC), France, and earned his PhD in Systems and Information Technologies in 2005 from the UTC. Between March 2002 and August 2005, he worked as a Research Engineer in Computer Science at the pole ICM (Ingénierie, Contrôles non destructifs et Mesure) of CETIM (CEntre Technique des Industries Mécaniques) in Senlis, France. During this period, he developed Data Clustering and Data Classification methods for real-time monitoring by acoustic emission of pressure vessels. From 2004 to 2005, he was President-elect of the Mouvement Associatif Doctoral of the UTC. From 2005 to 2006, he was Researcher at CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research), where he worked on the analysis and synthesis of speech. From 2006 to 2008, he was an Assistant Professor at the Université Sorbonne-Paris-Nord, where he conducted research in machine learning, automatic control, and data analysis.
During his academic and industrial career, he has received several awards: Excellence scholarship for the Master of Science internship, Industrial Convention for Training through Research as doctoral thesis scholarship, Best paper award for his significant contribution in Big Data model-based clustering, Prize received at Downing College at the University of Cambridge for the excellent organization of the 10th International Conference on Developments in eSystems Engineering (DeSE 2017). He has taught lectures, tutorials, and practical work in the following scientific subjects: Machine learning, Statistics for engineers, Data analysis, Data analytics, Algorithmics and Programming, Introduction to computer methods and tools for engineers, Microprocessors, Representation and statistical analysis of signals, Signal processing, Numerical methods and optimization, Automation and industrial IT, Microcontrollers, Electronics, Logic circuits, Simulation of electrical circuits, Minimization of electromagnetic disturbances, Sensors, Modeling of measurement uncertainties, Documentary research, Written and oral scientific communication techniques, and Tutored projects.
He was the educational manager of several continuing education sessions in the following scientific subjects: Design and production of signal acquisition systems, Digital signal acquisition, Physical principles and signals delivered by sensors, Influence and minimization of electromagnetic disturbances, Simulation of electronic circuits and systems, Control of the safety of electronic systems, Pattern recognition and data clustering, Instrumentation and computer-controlled measuring systems. He has supervised postdoctoral research fellows, PhD students, Master degree students, and Engineering graduation projects. He has developed numerous collaborations with multinational and national companies and has concluded numerous contracts for the transfer of technology from the university to the industry. He has authored over 85 peer-reviewed scientific publications. He has edited 6 scientific research books published by ACM and IEEE.
